Merry Christmas!

Well, here it is, Christmas Holidays and time for the Whited Family Dinner. A favorite tradition that I have looked forward to since infancy. My earliest memories are of all of us getting together (there was always lots of food involved). My, how our family loved Christmas. We all still do, but as our families have grown and changed, our traditions have too.

The big family Christmas dinner was always at our house on a Sunday in December after church. Our house would be filled with laughter and food. Mama always made the dressing. Ralph always made the ambrosia salad. The aunts would sit around the table in the dining room and talk over desserts while the uncles would find football on the tv in the den. My daddy would fall asleep in his chair and Conrad in the other. The children would be in the yard playing or in the playroom fighting. Above it all, laughter.

Christmas Day would always end at Uncle George and Aunt Dot's house. I have so many memories there. Again FOOD, but I remember taking cherished new toys to show Teresa and then we would hide them when Jill got there because we knew she would tear them up. (Still bitter from Jill breaking my Betty Beauty Parlor hairdryer that REALLY WORKED on Christmas DAY! I'm really over it Jill. Really!!) But I also remember the Christmas night in Rosa when Steve told Jill there was no Santa! Shame on you Steve!!! (Hmmm...kinda surprising that Jill has anything to do with us!!!)

Easter Sunday afternoons was ALWAYS at Uncle George and Aunt Dot's house where the adults hid our eggs and after we found them, we ate them, putting the shells in a round tin pail. I remember always being scared of the "cliff" at the edge of their yard. It was so high!

Mother's Day was always "Decoration". Every year I always went up to my precious Uncle George and told him Happy Mother's Day. He always grinned and gave me such a big hug.

Once again, the family gathers together with their food. I will miss it. But more importantly, I know that I will BE missed. That gives me a warm feeling inside. I will be thinking of you all Sunday afternoon and cherishing special memories. Mostly, I will be thinking of Mama's dressing, Ralph's ambrosia salad, Imogene's infectious laugh, and Uncle George's big hugs.

I love you all.

Merry Christmas.
